In a remarkable display of community solidarity and reverence, an initiative has been launched to construct a new mosque in Dubai dedicated to Daria Kotsarenko, a Ukrainian expatriate who embraced Islam shortly before her untimely demise.
The Dar Al Ber Society organized the project, which aims to commemorate Daria’s spiritual journey and contributions to the Islamic community in Dubai.
The proposed Daria Kotsarenko Mosque will be situated on an 812-square-meter plot in Dubai and will have a floor area of 613 square meters.
The mosque will feature separate prayer halls for men and women, ablution rooms, an imam’s residence spanning 170 square meters, and a minaret 33 meters high.
The project is currently in the fundraising stage, and approximately 13% of the required Dh4 million construction budget has already been collected through donations.
Daria’s introduction to Islam began three years ago in Dubai, where she showed genuine curiosity and reverence for the local culture and religion.
Through her exploration and engagement with Islamic teachings, she embarked on a profound spiritual journey that culminated in her conversion to Islam at the Islamic Information Centre operated by Dar Al Ber Society.
Despite her relatively short tenure as a Muslim, Daria’s unwavering commitment to her newfound faith left a lasting impact on the community.
Despite her limited family ties in the UAE, Daria’s funeral drew hundreds of mourners, including Emiratis and expatriates, who gathered to pay their respects.
Her conversion to Islam and subsequent passing elicited an outpouring of support and solidarity from the local Muslim community, reflecting the ethos of compassion and unity that permeates Dubai’s multicultural landscape.
The Dar Al Ber Society extended support to Daria’s family, offering assistance with funeral arrangements, financial aid, and emotional support during their mourning.
Daria’s untimely demise serves as a poignant reminder of the transient nature of life and the profound impact of faith on individuals and communities.
Through the construction of the Daria Kotsarenko Mosque, her legacy will last as a testament to the transformative power of spirituality and the enduring bonds of community solidarity.
As her memory is immortalized in the sacred space of the mosque, Daria’s spiritual journey will continue to motivate and resonate with future generations of worshippers in Dubai.
