UAE Public Holidays 2024: A Guide to Extended Weekends

UAE residents can look forward to at least 13 public holidays in 2024, offering opportunities for extended weekends and breaks throughout the year.

New Year’s Day: 3-Day Weekend:

January 1 kicks off the year on a Monday, providing a three-day weekend for residents to rest and celebrate the beginning of 2024.

Eid Al Fitr: 6-Day Break:

The end of Ramadan is marked by Eid Al Fitr, with Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3 designated public holidays. With Ramadan expected to last 29 days, the corresponding Gregorian calendar dates are April 9 to April 12, providing a six-day break, including the weekend.

Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha: 5 Days Off:

Arafah Day, followed by Eid Al Adha, offers five days off for residents. Falling on Dhul Hijjah 9, the corresponding Gregorian dates are June 16 to June 19, with the weekend adding to the break.

Islamic New Year: 1-Day Holiday:

Muharram 1, marking the Islamic New Year, is anticipated on Sunday, July 7. This will offer a day off for those without a Sunday weekend.

Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Birthday: Date TBD:

Observed on Rabi Al Awwal 12, the exact Gregorian date for Prophet Muhammad’s birthday is yet to be determined.

National Day: 4-Day Holiday:

The year concludes with a four-day holiday for National Day, with December 2 and 3 falling on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Coupled with the weekend, this provides an extended break to commemorate the occasion.
