Regent and Abu Dhabi Forge Partnership for Electric Sea Gliders

The intersection of technology and transportation in Abu Dhabi takes a significant leap forward as American sea glider manufacturer Regent partners with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) during the DriftX event. 

This collaboration aims to support developing and manufacturing fully electric sea gliders at Masdar City’s Smart and Autonomous Vehicles Industry (SAVI) cluster, potentially revolutionizing the UAE’s transport network.

Key Partnerships and Initiatives: 

Regent’s partnership with ADIO opens avenues for investment and technology development, positioning Abu Dhabi as a hub for manufacturing sea gliders by 2030. 

The sea gliders could soon be integrated into the UAE’s transport system, offering swift travel from Abu Dhabi to popular destinations like Sir Bani Yas Island and Delma Island.

Innovative Technology and Future Prospects: 

Regent’s flagship passenger craft, Viceroy, utilizes wing-in-ground effect technology to achieve nearly 300 km/h speeds along the water’s surface. 

With ongoing advancements in battery technology, speeds could soar up to 800 km/h, revolutionizing coastal travel and significantly reducing travel times.

Product Development and Sustainability: 

Regent is developing a full-scale model of the Viceroy capable of carrying twelve passengers, with plans for production in the US. 

Their sustainable maritime vehicles, including the 100-passenger Monarch, also highlight the company’s commitment to eco-friendly transportation solutions.

Emerging Trends in Transport: 

Abu Dhabi’s focus on fast and sustainable transport solutions aligns with global trends, with projects like Archer Aviation’s flying taxis and the development of vertiports in collaboration with Falcon Aviation.
