Astronomers from the Emirates Astronomy Society have unveiled their forecast for the commencement of Eid Al Adha festivities in the UAE.

Key Dates and Holidays:

According to their predictions, the Day of Arafat is slated for Sunday, June 16, marking the precursor to a three-day public holiday in the Emirates.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society, suggests that the holiday period may extend. The end of Tashriq and the Hajj season is anticipated on Thursday, June 20.

Potential Five-Day Holiday:

Should these forecasts materialize, residents in the UAE could enjoy a five-day consecutive break from work, including the weekend.

An update from the Emirates Astronomy Society points to Dhu al-Hijjah, the month housing Eid Al Adha, commencing on Saturday, June 8. This projection follows the expected start of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Qi’dahal-Qi’dah on Thursday, May 9.

Significance of the Day of Arafat:

The Day of Arafat, occurring on the 9th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, marks the initiation of Eid Al Adha festivities, a significant period of pilgrimage known as Hajj, celebrated by Muslims globally.

With Hajj spanning a week, Eid Al Adha falls on the third day of the pilgrimage, signifying a time of commemoration and celebration.

Last year, Eid Al Adha celebrations in the UAE extended over a six-day weekend, underscoring the significance of this occasion.

Lunar Calendar Dynamics:

While public holidays are typically announced at the onset of the Gregorian calendar year, Islamic holidays are determined by the moon cycle, necessitating closer confirmation of the date. For instance, this year’syear’s Eid Al Fitr holiday duration was confirmed only on the 29th day of Ramadan.
