Dubai Metro Stations Remain Closed After Record-Breaking Rainfall

Following record-breaking rainfall and severe floods in the UAE, several Dubai Metro stations remain closed due to rain damage, impacting commuters’ daily routines. 

Despite efforts to provide alternative transportation, passengers await updates on when these stations will reopen.

Closure Status and Temporary Measures: 

Four Dubai Metro stations—OnPassive, Equiti, Mashreq, and Energy Metro stations—remain closed due to rain damage. 

To temporarily accommodate passengers while they await the reopening of the affected stations, shuttle buses have been provided.

According to a tweet by Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA), normal operations are expected to resume by May 28, 2024. 

However, RTA emphasizes that stations will only reopen after completing maintenance and safety tests to ensure operational efficiency and safety standards.

Passenger Cooperation and Guidance: 

Passengers are urged to follow directional signs and cooperate with Dubai Metro and RTA staff during this period. 

To keep everyone informed, passengers are encouraged to share information with friends and family regarding station closures and alternative transportation options.

Operational Updates and Delays: 

While other stations on the Red Line are fully operational, users have reported slight delays. 

RTA advises passengers to plan their trips and stay updated on any official announcements regarding operational changes.

Historic Rainfall Event: 

The heavy rainfall on April 16, 2024, marked the UAE’s heaviest rainfall in 75 years, as the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported. 

Surpassing records dating back to 1949, the event resulted in severe flooding and damage, impacting various infrastructure, including the Dubai Metro.
