Dubai to Construct World Largest Capacity Airport at Al Maktoum International
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, made a groundbreaking announcement on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the approval of plans for the monumental expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport.
Unprecedented Scale and Capacity:
The ambitious project, estimated at Dhs128 billion, will transform Al Maktoum International into the world’s largest capacity airport upon completion.
The airport’s size will surpass that of the current Dubai International Airport, already the world’s busiest for international passengers, by a factor of five.
With a projected capacity to accommodate up to 260 million passengers, Al Maktoum International Airport will become the primary aviation hub in Dubai, gradually absorbing all operations currently housed at DXB within the next decade.
State-of-the-Art Facilities and Technologies:
Featuring over 400 aircraft gates, including five parallel runways built to the highest operational standards, and a total of five passenger terminal buildings, the new airport will integrate cutting-edge aviation technologies to enhance efficiency and passenger experience.
New City Development Around the Airport:
The expansion will catalyze the development of a new city around Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai South, accommodating housing for up to a million people.
This urban hub will attract leading companies in the logistics and air transport sectors, fostering economic growth and urban development.
